In the individual archery ranking round, Mangal Singh Champia is ranked second. He missed first rank by just one point (678 against the 679 by the leader).
He is ranked seconds means he will play the guy who is at position 63.
Saina Nehwal was too good for her Russian opponent and has entered into seconds round. (32 )
Vijendra Singh in boxing has entered into second round and is looking good from the results.

Anjali bhagwat has disappointed in 10m air rifle and archery team need to improve their performance if they want to qualify for knockout round. Anyways they still have few chances left for them in other events/knockout rounds.

If you look at the medals standings right now, many smaller countries have managed medals.

Why Indian team is having such a low count in athlete ? Whether we win any medals or not is secondary atleast the kind of exposure + experience gained by the players will be valueable if we are looking at larger picture in coming Olympics.

If India can squander money on many non-essential things then certainly spending money on sports should not be a big problem.

I assume athletes are also playing for the medals and not assuming that they are some Beijing sight seeing + shopping spree.

Today, it was wonderful opening ceremony of Olympic at the National Stadium in Beijing, China.
China organised the awesome grand spectacular opening ceremony.

Few of the photographs from the opening show are as follows: (Taken from Rediff.com)

Indian team at Beijing Olympics _ Rathore bearing the flag

I really want and hope that this time We will win few medals and try to prove that we are also good in other games too.

I know historically we have had very bad performances in the previous Olympics barring 3-4 performances (highest being the silver medal by Rajvardhan Singh Rathore).

Its bit difficult to digest that many smaller and poor countries manage to get medals at the games and India which has a population over 1 billion (and which can not be classified as poor country anymore) is unable to produce medal winning performances.

I know these talks take place at every Olympics and people criticize the teams, players, government, officials, coaches, systems and everything they can.

Somewhere we have to realise that the other countries do emphasis on great infrastructure for sports and provide many facilities to players. And bringing medals at Olympics is a sustained effort which immediately starts after Olympics is over.

Players/Teams are continuously practicing for almost 3-4 years to achieve a dream of medal in Olympics.
I think Indian players would also be doing the same (?) , however still our performances are poor at crucial junctures.

Do we Indians lack “Killer Instincts” in achieving our goals in life ? Or we always try to blame someone else for our failures ?

I want to seriously hope and believe that we will win at least one Gold Medal this time. And I’m 100% sure that every true Indian (even if he is criticizing and having many other problems to sort in his life) has this wish in his mind and is hoping that this will happen in Beijing Olympics.

May the forces be with our team.

India has sent 99 member squad to participate in 2008 Beijing Olympics (8 august to 24′th august 2008).
Out of those 99 member squad only 57 will be taking part in events and representing india and remaining 42 officials are on official paid holiday in Beijing.

Btw, my friend Reem (his blog) told me something shocking, couple of coach of Indian teams could not get the tickets for Olympics in time, but our officials have managed to get tickets for their entire family on free all paid tour of Beijing under the pretext of accompanying the players. This is certainly shameful.

Why are these guys screwing our hard-earned money (which we paid as several weird taxes to government) on their family holidays ?

Anyways all the best for the Indian Team at Beijing Olympics.

Update: India’s Abhinav Bindra has won first ever Individual Gold medal for india in men’s 10m Air Rifle Event. Click Here

Have a look at following photographs @ opening ceremony.
(Chinese guys are indeed good in firecrackers + lighting)
